EWS is the central partner for integrated renewable energy projects

With comprehensive expertise, we plan renewable energy projects, procure and supply all the necessary components, realise the construction and take over the operation - over the entire life cycle. This is how we ensure a stable, clean and environmentally friendly energy supply. As a regional all-rounder and market leader, we pool all our expertise in-house and offer our customers an independent, trustworthy point of contact for sustainable energy products and services. With in-depth knowledge, genuine passion and over 30 years of experience, we are shaping a sustainable energy future together.

Originals and visionaries

In the 90s, we couldn't have known how our path would ultimately turn out. But we had a hunch, a clear goal, the right ideas and the brains to mould all of this from a simple commitment into a company. One that keeps the environment AND people in mind. Because - and this is our conviction - only a healthy (working) environment can give rise to projects for a healthy environment.

After all these years, the time has now come for the next generation to take responsibility. Joachim Payr is handing over the reins to his two daughters Alina and Esther, who will join the company as managing partners on 1 January 2026 in addition to their project management duties and will continue to develop the company together with Gerhard Steindl. This combines experience with new perspectives and the energy of a generation that not only wants to shape the future, but also actively protect it.

The company history of EWS

1994
The beginning of a vision
The foundation stone for a success story in the field of renewable energies and climate protection was laid with the establishment of our company.
2004
A home for innovation
The headquarters in Munderfing (Upper Austria) was opened - a significant step towards strengthening our activities and further professionalising our company.
2008
Looking beyond borders
Start of internationalisation with a focus on South East and Eastern Europe. New markets were opened up, strategic partnerships established and our network expanded beyond national borders.
2012
Growth at the Munderfing site
The expansion of our site in Munderfing made it possible to create new jobs - a clear commitment to the region and to sustainable growth.
2019
Solar power in the portfolio
By entering the photovoltaic sector, we expanded our business area in the solar sector and set another milestone in actively shaping the energy transition. With the development of our innovative Agri-PV solution, the EWS Sonnenfeld®, the pioneering combination of energy generation, agriculture and biodiversity has become a reality.
2022
Expertise for the future
In Parndorf (Burgenland), we opened our competence centre for wind power & agrivoltaics - a place for research, development and new ideas. At the same time, we launched EWS Sonnenfeld in Bruck/Leitha (Lower Austria), a research centre where we are working on the solutions of tomorrow.
2023
Strong partner for EPC solutions
Since 2023, we have been offering holistic solutions as a general contractor for large-scale projects, primarily in the field of PV - competent, efficient, safe and forward-looking.
2024
Presence in the capital
With the opening of our office in Vienna, we are now also represented in the federal capital - closer to partners, projects and political decision-making channels.
2025
The next step - smart grids and storage solutions
Since 2025, we have also been developing economical and grid-friendly storage solutions - from battery storage systems to hybrid systems with wind and PV systems. This enables us to ensure grid stability, increase efficiency and make renewable energy more predictable and available than ever before.
2026
Stable into the future - a new generation, a breath of fresh air
A new era is dawning at EWS! A good three decades after it was founded, EWS is reorganising its management: On 1 January 2026, Joachim Payr, one of the EWS company founders, handed over his management to his two daughters Esther and Alina Mirwald, who will now run the company together with Gerhard Steindl.
