First double harvest of solar power and grain in Upper Austria
On 13 August 2025, everything was just right: the ears of oats were ripe, the combine harvester was organised and the weather was fine and dry.
After a construction period of just six months and commissioning of the system in April 2025, the first harvest took place at the EWS Sonnenfeld in Pischelsdorf am Engelbach.
As can be seen in the pictures, the modules were previously opened 70° to each other and set to "harvest mode". This allowed the combine harvester to drive through the 9m wide cultivation strips in a row with high clearance light.
This is a first: for the first time, grain was harvested on an Agri-PV system in Upper Austria in addition to solar power. The practical proof has now also been provided in Upper Austria at the EWS Sonnenfeld in Pischelsdorf!
Property owner and farmer Franz Bachleitner sowed a catch crop after the harvest and will grow soya next year.
Read the practical report by Boku Vienna on the second harvest in 2024 at the EWS Sonnenfeld Agri-PV pilot and research plant in Bruck an der Leitha, which was built in 2022.
