Hybrid park Parndorf from wind energy & an EWS Sonnenfeld®
In Parndorf, EWS EPC is currently building a solar field for oekostrom AG, which will be operated as a hybrid farm with 17 MWp together with the existing Parndorf wind farm with 7 wind turbines and an output of 27 MW. 1P sun catchers provide protection for the sheep, in return they maintain the green areas, which will continue to be used for agricultural purposes.
The Agri-PV plant is being built on an area of around 20.5 hectares in the immediate vicinity of the existing Parndorf wind farm, 40 kilometres south-east of Vienna. The bifacial glass/glass solar modules will be installed on single-axis sun catchers.
Matthias Mitterhauser-Chen, Team Leader Construction Management and Project Manager Mario Geyer are overseeing the EWS project and agree: "It is a beautiful and large project with long rows of module tables on a flat surface. The 1P tracker is ideally suited to this location - it is inexpensive to purchase and can generate high and system-compatible electricity yields, especially in the morning and evening hours, with close spacing and movable sun catchers."
Karl-Heinz Hofer is the technical manager for electrical engineering at EWS and is responsible for the grid integration of the Parndorf solar field: "When integrating PV systems into an existing wind farm grid connection point, precise coordination with the grid and system operator is crucial in order to avoid unnecessary downtimes. At the heart of this integration is the hybrid or mixed park controller, which precisely coordinates the interaction between the different generation units. Implementing this higher-level controller on time and reliably is a central element of our work."
Project manager Peter Kuntner from oekostrom AG is in charge of the Parndorf solar field and is extremely satisfied with the implementation: "The Parndorf solar field is already my second implementation project with the EWS team. The collaboration is reliable, constructive and characterised by genuine cooperation. This project was also realised efficiently and in an impressively short time by EWS."
Shared grid connection for lower costs and more stability
The advantage of combining wind and solar energy is that the different generation phases over the year complement each other very well - with wind energy mainly in winter and solar energy mainly in summer. Combined with storage solutions, they are the future of renewable energy supply.
Hybrid parks ensure maximum utilisation of space and grid capacities. The right "load management" ensures that the different electricity generators are brought together and coordinated.
When combining wind power and photovoltaics, with or without a storage solution, we are happy to support you from the site assessment to the strategic environmental assessment through to construction - efficiently, legally compliant and coordinated with all relevant authorities in order to generate the most cost-effective solar power for the economy and our population in the long term.
