Renewable energy made in Braunau

Our district has enough renewable and space-saving energy potential for its energy needs! And this is how it can be utilised.

The total annual electricity consumption in the Braunau district is 1.020 TWh. With 53 wind turbines and 23 agri-PV systems, which can realistically be realised across the entire district over the next 10 years, it is possible to generate around 1.025 TWh of energy per year. The great thing is that the medium and high-voltage electricity grid in the Braunau district is already equipped for the integration of large-scale wind and PV systems thanks to the connection to APG's 380 kV ring with only minor adjustments.

Wind and PV from Braunau

Renewable electricity made in Braunau is quick, cost-effective and feasible with low land consumption!"

Joachim Payr, Managing Director of EWS, the leading engineering firm for wind and agri-PV systems from Munderfing. "A wind turbine generates between 13 and 17 million kWh per year, especially in the winter months when little energy comes from hydropower and solar power. The Munderfing wind farm, which has been successful for 10 years, shows us that wind energy works reliably in the Kobernaußerwald. In summer, agri-PV systems supply environmentally friendly solar power at a rate of around 10 million kWh per year and a system size of 10 hectares. At EWS Sonnenfeld®, only 0.2 ha (2%) of the area is actually used to generate electricity, with the much larger proportion of the area remaining in agricultural use."

A recent study by the Austrian Energy Agency (AEA) predicts that total electricity consumption will double to more than 2 TWh/a by 2040 due to the implementation of energy efficiency measures through the electrification of the transport, heating and industrial processes sectors.  To ensure that our prosperity remains secure and that we remain an attractive business location with good jobs, the provision of secure renewable energy is essential so that we do not remain stuck in dependence and uncertainty on expensive fossil fuel imports from abroad.

Communities decide and benefit

The decision as to whether a project can be realised in the municipal area lies with the respective mayors and municipal councillors!

Joachim Payr: "Many municipalities in the Braunau district are already setting a good example. Pischelsdorf am Engelbach has already shown the way. In March 2025, the agri-PV system will feed regionally generated solar power into the grid for around 1,680 households. The "EWS Sonnenfeld Mining" with electricity for 4,450 households will be realised this year. A further 11 Sonnenfeld projects are planned in the district. Wind energy is and will remain an issue in the district. The Munderfing wind farm expansion project is particularly noteworthy here. And there are other areas that are very suitable for wind power production. As green electricity professionals from the region, we have specific project offers for municipalities and we know how to realise them economically and in an environmentally friendly way."

Municipalities often request citizen participation models for renewable energy projects. This creates added value locally. Anyone who wants to can participate financially in the project and benefit from attractive interest rates. The recently successfully financed crowd investment for the "EWS Sonnenfeld Pischelsdorf am Engelbach" agri-PV plant with priority subscription for the citizens of Pischelsdorf is a good example of this.

We need renewable energy projects in the district because a modern, up-to-date and sustainable infrastructure is important for strengthening our business location in a future-oriented way. Wind and solar energy are the key levers here.

"If you have already thought about a renewable energy project for your municipality, please get in touch with us. Together with you, we will examine the possibilities on site and develop the right green energy project," says Joachim Payr, inviting municipalities and property owners to get in touch and looking forward to hearing from you.
