Travelling by train with solar power from Agri-PV system

EWS on board for the construction of ÖBB's first tracker solar power plant for traction current in Burgenland.

The Austrian Federal Railways are relying on agrivoltaics to generate their own electricity with direct feed-in to the overhead line near Donnerskirchen and have commissioned Burgenland Energie as their implementation partner, who in turn have brought EWS on board as agrivoltaic experts for the construction management of the 7ha agrivoltaic plant. The ground-breaking ceremony took place on 11 September 2025.

Pull by pull towards the energy transition

Jessica Bauer, Project Manager at Burgenland Energie: "EWS is already a long-standing partner of Burgenland Energie with many successfully implemented wind farm and PV projects. For the first tracker solar power plant in Burgenland, we can also rely on the proven quality standards and the efficient and structured working methods of EWS."

Aron Varga, construction management team leader at EWS: "What could be better than environmentally friendly train travel with sustainable solar power? It's a great combination and it's great that ÖBB also has agrivoltaic systems with trackers in its portfolio. This shows us that we have our finger on the pulse with the EWS Sonnenfeld® and that well-known companies appreciate the ecological added value and high space efficiency of dual utilisation."
