You can rely on wind energy from the Kobernaußerwald!

Munderfing 2024 wind farm again with top electricity yields.

The six wind turbines in Kobernaußerwald have been delivering reliably high wind power results for 10 years with top values in the winter months. In combination with hydropower and solar energy, wind power provides us with reliable, affordable and domestic green electricity all year round in turbulent times.

2024 was not only a record year for wind power throughout Austria, with the electricity generated by wind turbines covering 16% of Austria's electricity supply over the entire year. This also applies to the Munderfing wind farm, which generated more than 41 million kWh of wind power last year - electricity for more than 12,500 households.

In the wind farm's 10-year operating history, the year 2023 also stands out, with even more, namely 44.4 million kWh of green electricity, being fed into the grid.

Martin Voggenberger, Managing Director of Windpark Munderfing GmbH and Mayor of Munderfing: "The electricity yields naturally depend on the wind and there are of course fluctuations. But what we can see is that the Munderfing wind farm has reliably achieved the forecasts over the years and has even significantly exceeded them in many years, especially in 2023 and 2024."

Above-average electricity yield in the winter months

Wind energy scores particularly well in the winter months and supplies electricity when hydropower and photovoltaics are weaker due to seasonal weather conditions with less precipitation and less sunshine and we need a lot of electricity for heating and winter tourism.

EWS Head of Measurement and Assessment and meteorologist Markus Sageder knows why this is the case: "The stronger and more frequent winds and the stable stratification of cold air in the winter months mean that wind turbines work more efficiently and generate more electricity at this time of year. As we at EWS have been dealing with wind energy for over 30 years, we know where windy regions and high electricity yields can be expected, especially in Upper Austria. As wind power experts in this field, we can maximise yields from the respective locations through good planning and optimal implementation. The Munderfing wind farm is a very good example of this."

The Munderfing community wind farm, which is 75% owned by the municipality, has not only ensured reliable wind power yields over the years, it has also established itself as an extremely popular and popular excursion destination. Mayor Martin Voggenberger: "I regularly visit the wind farm area in my free time and always meet people. Sportsmen and women as well as nature lovers. Obviously, our wind turbines also provide an opportunity and destination for nature experiences in the beautiful Kobernaußerwald forest."
