Zwentendorf Public Holiday

On 5 November, the Zwentendorf public holiday will be observed in Linz (and also in Vienna). Following the opening ceremony at the University of Art and Design Linz, a procession will lead from the main square to the parish church in Urfahr/Grüner Anker:
4.00 pm: The event begins at the University of Art and Design Linz with presentations on the state of nuclear energy and the devastating environmental impact of the Kronstorf data centre.
From 6.00 pm: the Cancellation Day ritual will be performed during the procession across the Danube.
Upon arrival at the Grüner Anker church, a communal feast featuring ‘Nuclear Power? No Thanks!’ waffles will be held, followed by celebrations accompanied by performances and DJ Nyx until 10.00 pm.
“Zwentendorf shows that collective resistance against powerful interests can prevail. Especially in times of the climate crisis, we need such success stories to give us courage, rather than succumbing to resignation. atomstopp_atomkraftfrei leben! has its roots in the anti-Zwentendorf movement, in which many civil society groups fought together. We are therefore particularly delighted to now be celebrating this public holiday in collaboration with many partners. Because, in the face of man-made global warming, joint efforts are needed to swiftly implement sustainable alternatives”, said atomstopp Managing Director Herbert Stoiber.
The so-called Zwentendorf Public Holiday commemorates the historic referendum against the Zwentendorf nuclear power station in 1978 – a milestone for democracy and environmental protection in Austria.
