Affordable energy prices thanks to electricity from our own country

Municipal green electricity from EWS Sonnenfeld® as a successful concept for Upper Austria's municipalities

EWS project developer Gerhard Thalhammer reports from the field: "Successfully implemented projects, such as the EWS Sonnenfeld in Pischelsdorf am Engelbach, show how great climate protection projects can be realised and how everyone benefits, is satisfied and enjoys them in the end. Because various criteria are necessary for the selection of sites for solar field projects, we know which plots of land are suitable for them. Then the exciting part begins: together with landowners, farmers and the local communities, the most important key points are defined and good solutions are agreed. One example of this is the already successfully completed EWS crowdinvesting projects for the Pischelsdorf, Höhnhart and Mining solar fields, which were extremely well received by the local population. Everything else is then the responsibility of the professionals at EWS, who take care of the approval and implementation with a great deal of experience and expertise."

Projects throughout the country

The municipalities of Burgkirchen, Höhnhart, Mining, Neuhofen, Neukirchen an der Enknach, Pennewang, Pucking, Schalchen, St. Veit, Pischelsdorf am Engelbach and the municipality of Rohrbach-Berg have also already paved the way for the realisation of municipal EWS Sonnenfelder® for a wide range of operators in Upper Austria by initiating the dedication process. Further EWS projects are being planned in the federal states of Carinthia, Lower Austria, Styria, Salzburg and Burgenland.

Creating sustainable and self-determined systems with wind & solar energy

Double utilisation of soils: Photovoltaic systems can be implemented particularly quickly and cost-effectively for environmentally friendly solar power generation. Agri-photovoltaics additionally secures the continued existence of farms and preserves species-rich soils. The EWS Sonnenfeld® is an agrivoltaic system that has been developed by the EWS team over the last 5 years for the dual utilisation of good soils on grassland and arable land and has been successfully tested with scientific support.

Combining generation: Wind energy is particularly in season in the winter months, i.e. when there is little sunshine and the hydroelectric power plants produce less power. With sufficient available and combined wind and solar power generation, we can generate enough renewable energy ourselves throughout the year. The Austrian pumped storage power plants already have enough capacity to compensate for times when there is too little wind or the sun is not shining. New projects such as those in Ebensee and Kaprun ensure that domestic electricity will also be available at the touch of a button in the future.

"Wind and solar energy don't need the Strait of Hormuz or a gas pipeline from Russia. Wind and sun are freely available and unlimited. We don't have to fight for it, we just have to use it cleverly on site," says Joachim Payr.
