Martin Winkler visits EWS

The head of the Upper Austrian SPÖ promises a strong tailwind for important energy projects.

Landesrat Martin Winkler visited EWS at the Munderfing sitewith a local SPÖ delegation as part of his tour of the Innviertel region on 6 February 2026 and discussed the current challenges facing Upper Austria as an energy location in the area of wind power and agri-PV systems

Great potential in the Braunau district

Alina Mirwald, Managing Partner at EWS, summarises: "We pointed out that there is great potential in the Braunau district with 53 possible wind power plants and 23 EWS agri-PV solar fields. If fully realised, this could produce 1.025 terawatt hours of electricity per year, covering 100% of the district's current total consumption. We also talked about the solar fields we have already implemented for our customers in the district. We would like to visit one of them and the Munderfing wind farm with Mr Winkler on our next visit."

More secure, affordable and clean energy for a strong Upper Austria

The planning security for large projects and the sometimes still complicated approval procedures in Upper Austria were discussed as particularly important points. Winkler commented: "It is up to politicians to remove any hurdles, such as long approval procedures, and provide the necessary tailwind." In any case, he will do everything he can to ensure a strong business location with many jobs.

"Upper Austria has everything it needs for an independent energy supply: Mountains, wind, water and sun. And we have companies like EWS that can help us maximise this potential. Such companies create skilled jobs in the region and reduce our electricity prices in the long term with their projects," emphasised the head of the Upper Austrian SPÖ at the end of his visit to EWS.
