The Braunau Business Association learns about sustainable and secure energy supply
On 4 August 2026, the Braunau Business Association hosted the “Sommerimpulse” event in Höhnhart. Under the motto ‘Energy of the Future – Future of Energy’, more than 60 regional entrepreneurs accepted the invitation and took the opportunity to visit the EWS Sonnenfeld Höhnhart next to the ski jump facility and gain insights into innovative energy solutions. EWS co-owner Alina Mirwald and project manager Fabian Neubacher were on hand to answer questions and engage in technical discussions.
WB District Chairman Martin Feichtinger: “A sustainable and secure energy supply is of great importance to our entrepreneurs. The agri-PV plant in Höhnhart is a prime example of this, as it sensibly combines agriculture with solar power generation. There are already several agri-PV installations of this kind in operation in the Braunau district and, as we have heard from EWS, enquiries are on the rise and further regional initiatives are already in the pipeline.”
“Yes, the EWS Sonnenfeld® is in demand as a large-scale solar power generation system due to its soil-conserving, efficient design, as it offers many advantages and existing land even increases in value through multiple use. For example, 80 per cent of the area can continue to be used for mechanised farming as usual, whilst a further 18 per cent – namely the vegetation strips beneath the PV modules – are used as biodiversity areas which, when installed and maintained in a manner appropriate to the site, can fulfil their ecological purpose and develop permanently species-rich habitats. The electricity yields are more efficient and higher than with fixed-mount systems, thanks to tracking solar panels, which require just 2 per cent of the land area,” confirms Alina Mirwald, co-owner and managing director of EWS.
The municipality of Höhnhart even has three solar farms that supply electricity to around 4,100 households each year. Another Braunau solar farm is located in the municipality of Pischelsdorf am Engelbach and generates solar power for 1,680 households. The EWS solar farm in Mining even produces regional solar power for 4,920 households.
Projects such as these promote the economic development of the district and make it more resilient in terms of energy supply, right up to self-sufficiency in electricity from wind and solar power combined with storage solutions.
