EWS Sonnenfeld Pischelsdorf proved a crowd-puller at the finale of Radio OÖ’s summer tour

EWS project manager Eva Kern provided fascinating insights into the 4.85 MWp agri-PV plant in an interview with Conny Deutsch. There was particular interest in how agriculture and solar power generation can coexist on the same plot of land. Many visitors also took up the offer to view the EWS Sonnenfeld Pischelsdorf Agri-PV plant, operated by Energie AG OÖ and EWS, up close. 

A highlight: A mobile crane took some visitors high up – offering an impressive view over the entire Sonnenfeld.

What surprised many: Only around 2 per cent of the area is actually used for solar power generation. The majority – namely 80 per cent of the area – remains available for agricultural use with tractors and combine harvesters, whilst a further 18 per cent provides additional space for biodiversity.

Even during this extremely dry summer, it is clear that soya is thriving here at the Sonnenfeld. The elevated PV modules protect the plants and soil from intense sunlight. How will this affect crop yields? We can’t wait to find out! 

And there was another aspect that went down particularly well with visitors to the Sonnenfeld: once the plant’s operational life is over, it can be completely dismantled, leaving no trace behind. So the field remains a field!
