The acceptance procedure marks the decisive step towards the official acceptance and commissioning of your wind turbine. With wind turbines, several bodies are usually involved: the authority, expert assessors and the turbine manufacturer. Preparation includes the question of whether acceptance is to take place in parts or for the entire farm, whether expert opinions on noise and ice fall are available in good time and which expert assessors are involved. The acceptance decision also sets the date by which a follow-up inspection must take place, if one is provided for. How the procedure runs is shown by the example of wind farms subject to an environmental impact assessment (EIA). The project applicant notifies the authority of completion before commissioning. The authority then checks whether the project corresponds to the permit and commissions expert assessors from the disciplines concerned, such as noise protection, shadow flicker and ice fall, nature conservation, electrical engineering, traffic or forestry. The expert assessors first assess whether the documents are complete, then their content: are deviations from the decision minor? Do they correspond to the state of the art? Were the conditions complied with?
Parties involved and participating authorities are consulted and can comment. Statements come, for example, from the labour inspectorate, the environmental ombudsman or ministries, and the parties can take part in a hearing. At the end there is the acceptance decision. It replaces the operating or use permits otherwise provided for under administrative regulations. It orders the remedying of identified deviations; minor deviations can be approved retrospectively by the authority. If appropriate, acceptance can also take place in parts. When the decision becomes final, ongoing supervision usually passes to the competent specialist authorities. Conditions that could not yet be fulfilled, such as plantings, are checked there later.

Outside the EIA, procedure and responsibility follow the respective provincial law.
