An Upper Austrian municipality with no fewer than three solar farms!
In the Innviertel municipality of Höhnhart, no fewer than three EWS Sonnenfeld® agri-photovoltaic plants are to be built, all with construction due to start in 2025. EWS planned all three and secured regulatory approval for them: the Sonnenfeld Herbstheim, owned by oekostrom AG, and the so-called “Mayor’s Sonnenfeld”, which the mayor of Höhnhart will operate himself. EWS supplied the EWS Sonnenfeld Höhnhart on a turnkey basis.
With the commissioning of the agri-PV plant on the land owned by Andreas Preishuber and Manfred Ornter in May 2026, another Innviertel EWS Sonnenfeld® was connected to the grid and has been feeding regionally generated, clean solar power into the grid ever since. Farmer Andreas Preishuber is a great fan of agri-PV and sees clear advantages, above all, in trackable solar panels. He took the initiative for the project. Following discussions with the mayor, the idea quickly developed into a concrete plan and contact was established with EWS.
“As mayor and also as a farmer, I am firmly convinced that solar fields represent the future for many communities and are a key factor in our prosperity. They offer us the chance to continue practising sustainable agriculture and have an excellent energy balance,” says Mayor Priewasser, adding: “As well as households, our industrial and commercial enterprises in particular need affordable electricity; otherwise, many jobs could end up moving abroad. And we certainly don’t want that! Every local authority is now called upon to play its part in this.”

Often, all it takes is a few committed people to drive the energy transition forward. Renewable energy projects often arise from the initiative of landowners and local communities, who work together with project developers and operators to drive projects forward and make them a reality.
