A hybrid energy park combining wind power and an EWS Sonnenfeld® – intelligently combined.
At the end of January 2026, the EWS team successfully commissioned the EWS Sonnenfeld Parndorf on behalf of oekostrom AG. The 17 MWp agri-PV plant is operated together with the existing Parndorf wind farm (7 wind turbines, 27 MW) as a hybrid park .
The agri-PV plant was constructed on a site covering approximately 20.5 hectares in the immediate vicinity of the existing wind farm. Bifacial glass-on-glass solar modules are used, mounted on single-axis trackers (1P trackers). This system enables particularly efficient electricity generation whilst allowing the land to be used for agricultural purposes.
- 16.1 ha for agricultural use (80 %)
- 3.6 ha to enhance biodiversity (flower strips, bee pastures, fallow land) (18 per cent)
- 0.4 ha for solar power generation (2 per cent)
- CO₂ savings of 531,665 tonnes over 30 years
A key highlight of the project is the integration of the EWS Sonnenfeld into the existing grid connection of oekostrom AG’s Parndorf wind farm. The shared grid connection reduces costs, increases grid stability and highlights the advantages of hybrid parks in the energy system of the future.
Karl-Heinz Hofer (Technical Director of Electrical Engineering): “When integrating PV systems into an existing grid connection point for wind farms, precise coordination with the grid and plant operator is crucial to avoid unnecessary downtime. At the heart of this integration is the hybrid or mixed-park controller, which precisely coordinates the interaction between the various generation units. Implementing this overarching controller in a timely and reliable manner is a central element of our work.”
Benjamin Renzl (Head of EPC Project Implementation) “For our client, we delivered the EWS Sonnenfeld on a turnkey basis – from planning through to approval and procurement, right through to installation and commissioning, many specialist departments work in tandem. The combination of solar and wind energy presented an additional challenge. A major advantage here is that our team covers all the necessary specialist areas. This ensures short coordination channels and provides our client with all services from a single source.”
oekostrom AG are also very satisfied. Project manager Peter Kuntner explains: “The Parndorf solar farm is already my second project with the EWS team. The collaboration is reliable, constructive and characterised by genuine teamwork. This project, too, was implemented by EWS efficiently and in an impressively short time.”
Hybrid energy parks such as the one in Parndorf make optimal use of the natural advantages of renewable energy. Whilst wind energy delivers high yields particularly in winter, solar energy peaks in summer. Combined with smart load management and, in future, storage solutions too, such projects represent a key building block for a stable, cost-effective and sustainable energy supply.
