Cleverly combined to form a hybrid park utilising wind and solar energy
As an EPC contractor, EWS planned, supplied and implemented an agri-photovoltaic plant for Gugelsolar GmbH in the municipality of Gaweinstal in Lower Austria. The EWS Sonnenfeld® , together with four wind turbines – for which EWS also handled the construction management – is the first hybrid park of its kind to generate green electricity from wind and solar energy with maximum land-use efficiency.
Yield data for EWS Sonnenfeld Pellendorf
- 3.2 ha for agricultural use (80 %)
- 0.72 ha for enhancing biodiversity (flower strips, bee pastures, fallow land) (18 %)
- 0.08 ha for solar power generation (2 %)
- CO₂ savings over 30 years: 114,260 t
Yield data for the Gugelberg wind farm
- 3 x Vestas V112, hub height 143 m, 3.3 MW each (2017)
- 1 x Vestas V162, hub height 169 m, 6.2 MW (2023)
Annual electricity production at the hybrid park: 44,300 MWh
Energy for 14,700 households (domestic electricity)
Combining wind energy and agri-PV offers several advantages:
- maximum increase in yields through triple use of the land
- maximum utilisation of available grid capacity and connection points
- cost savings through shared use / procurement of cable infrastructure and grid connections
- Increased grid stability through the smoothing of annual electricity production
- Maximum system compatibility for electricity grids and self-consumption systems
- optimised operational management through a centralised PV and wind farm control system
- rapid and cost-effective implementation with minimal land use
